Sheppey's premier martial arts club
What does SSMA teach?
Sheppey School of Martial Arts teaches a variety of oriental and western martial arts incorporating principles from Wing Chun, karate, kick-boxing, etc. Rather than categorise what we do I'd rather say we simply practice Martial Arts.

I'm looking for a club that will teach me how to defend myself, I'm not bothered with gradings and competitions.
We train for self protection and do not enter competitions or conduct gradings; we come, we train, we go home (we train at home!!). Training is tailored to you but will always principally be geared toward effective self protection.

I would love to learn martial arts but I'm too fat/ thin/ old/ weak/ etc, will I be able to cope?
All excuses! What better way to lose weight, gain strength, get exercise, etc? And although we can't make you younger, perhaps you'll feel it! Put all your excuses behind you and come along to have a look. We tailor your training to fit you and will work within your limitations to progressively drive you further.

Is the club open to women?
Yes of course women are more than welcome to train and as with everyone else the training is tailored accordingly.

I don't have any martial arts experience, does this matter?
Not at all, indeed it may even work to your advantage as you will not have to adapt or relearn what you already know.

I am an experienced martial artist and just want to learn some other stuff to fill the gaps in my style.
Then you are just the kind of martial artist that is welcome at SSMA. We are very open minded and will look to build upon your strengths and fill in your weaknesses. Extra knowledge and input is always welcome at the club.

What should I wear?
You may wear anything loose and comfortable we do not have a uniform or dress code. We do ask that the clothing be sensible and will not cause injury to your training partners, i.e keep zips, etc to a minimum.
